James Michael Tyler who is well-known for his role as the coffee shop manager named “Gunther” on the famous sitcom “Friends” died at his home on Sunday. He was just 59 years old when he died. The loved ones of James Michael Tyler knew him as a famous actor, musician, a loving husband, and an advocate. James Michael was fighting prostate cancer which was diagnosed in the year 2018. A statement reads- “Michael loved live music, cheering on his Clemson Tigers, and would often find himself in fun and unplanned adventures. If you met him once you made a friend for life”.

He was also seen in other shows like “Scrubs,” “Modern Music,” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.”

The co-creator of Friends Marta Kauffman and David Crane said that he was a “genuinely kind, sweet man. When he started as an extra on ‘Friends,’ his unique spirit caught our eye and we knew we had to make him a character,” the statement read. “He made Gunther’s unrequited love incredibly relatable. Our heart goes out to his wife, Jennifer Carno.”

Tyler was fighting with Stage 4 prostate cancer which left him unable to walk. He was being treated with hormone therapy.

Tyler was not able to attend the Friends Reunion in person due to his health problems. However, he appeared through a zoom call and shared his experience by saying-“It was the most memorable 10 years of my life, honestly. I could not have imagined just a better experience. All these guys were fantastic and just a joy to work with. It felt very, very special.”
